Audit: three years of the PROHARDVER! home-server forum read against Felhom; R-990, R-991 filed
Read-only. fetch.py (polite, 5 s apart, 34 pages, all 200), parse.py (own text only; four parser
defects found by the controls and fixed), build.py + spotcheck.py (stdlib). tags.csv holds post
numbers and tags only - no username, author id, salt or post text in git. FINDINGS.md (2,908 posts,
195 people, 82 beginner threads in 7 clusters), FELHOM.md (catalog gap, hardware fit, 15 website
questions, objections, ten ranked recommendations), METHOD.md (controls, spot-check: role and
hardware below 85 % after two rounds, the table-driving splits 92.5 % and 97.3 %), REPORT.md.
R-990: operator rules on the recommendations. R-991: no buyer-readable hardware floor.

FINDINGS — PROHARDVER! „Home server / házi szerver építése”, 2023-10-12 → 2026-10-12

Source: posts #7943–#11092 of the public topic, fetched 2026-10-12. Every number below is produced by build.py from tags.csv and can be re-run. Post numbers make each claim checkable on the forum. „People” = distinct writers (pseudonymous hash), never posts. Method and limits: METHOD.md. Hardware counts are approximate (spot-check agreement 82.9 %, below the 85 % bar — METHOD.md).

# Cluster (our words) Threads Examples Answer the community most often gave
1 Which system do I install — TrueNAS, OMV, Proxmox, Xpenology, Windows? 20 #8046, #8201, #10418 OpenMediaVault, then Proxmox; apps in Docker; plain Debian if you know Linux; TrueNAS called hard for a beginner
2 Which small, low-power machine should I buy? 16 #8143, #9251, #10518 A used business mini PC or an N100-class box; for TV playback alone a Kodi/LibreELEC player
3 Disks: external USB drives, powering drives, adapters, RAID 12 #8124, #8301, #8783 Do not power drives by hand — take a used business tower (SFF/MT) with bays; skip board RAID; keep a cold backup
4 How do I install or connect an app (containers, shares, Home Assistant)? 11 #7981, #8631, #10514 Case by case; Home Assistant OS in its own VM or a cheap separate box
5 Ready NAS (Synology) or build / reuse a PC? 10 #7952, #8285, #8847 Split: build or reuse a PC (6 answers) vs Synology (5) — price and freedom against convenience
6 How do I reach it from my phone or outside the home? 7 #8037, #8073, #8516 Tailscale or WireGuard; never expose SMB; slow upload limits remote films
7 Is my old, inherited or office PC good enough? 6 #8330, #10254, #9145 Usually yes for files, torrent and Plex; watch power draw

7 Trend

Most year-to-year moves are within noise (about 100 active people per full year; a move needs ≥ 2 standard errors). Four exceed it (power bill 2.3 SE, lock-in 2.6 SE, self-built 3.5 SE; ZimaOS is new):

Change 2023 Q4 2024 2025 2026 (to Oct)
Power bill named, share of active people 35 % 33 % 19 % 18 %
Vendor lock-in named (Synology disk lock, TrueNAS app change) 0 % 2 % 11 % 3 %
ZimaOS named 0 0 4 people 3 people
Self-built machines, share of active people 20 % 28 % 33 % 50 %

No trend in the beginner questions themselves: the same seven clusters appear every year.
